2026 - A Baby is born!

I can't quite remember how and when all of the planning took place, but 6 days after we returned from West Texas, we headed out west again!  Sian & Bryan had a planned C-Section for April 28 because their baby still had not turned.  What is it with these Chung babies...?  Neither Bryan or Jacob turned...

We took this opportunity to drive the Lexus out and planned a bunch of activities related to our move.  Everything worked out to leave the morning after a get together with some old co-workers from Toyota at Kemuri (Daniel Evans and Geoff Partain)...sadly we forgot to take a group pic, but I did get this shot of Barry selling the socks he was wearing to a complete stranger (a cool $30 from Larry's old socks!)!

We drove out early the next morning and made it out to Las Cruces.  Found a good Mexican restaurant in the Mesilla area nearby called Andele.  This area (Mesilla) looks historic & interesting...we will have to stop here again on our next trip out.

Our Day 2 drive was not as bad as we thought it would be, so we took a coupe of detours to visit some National Park Sites (Fort Bowie, and Casa Grande).

From our stay in Blythe, CA we drove straight to LA and picked up food for us grandparents (Philippes & Family Bakery), while Shirley made special food & drink for Sian under the direction of the Chinese Nanny (Yue Sao) they hired for a month to stay with Bryan & Sian.

There was quite a bit of waiting around, but it was nice to catch up with Michael & Shirley.  Finally we got word that Kira was delivered!

Happy day for first time grandparents!

Everyone is commenting on her beautiful head of hair!

The next day Barry & I drove down to Irvine to pick up my mom and we drove straight to Farmer's Market (by the Grove) to pick up Italian sandwiches by special request of Sian, who has been craving this during pregnancy.  Jackie also came by so we visited together and had the "best" sandwiches Jackie has ever eaten, LOL! 😂

We missed the window to drive back down to Orange County, so we went out to dinner with Michael & Shirley.  The kids told us to try David Chang's new place in Century City (Super Peach) - it was really yummy!

While we were eating and taking mom back to Irvine, the L. Chung's made a visit!

For the next two days we did not see Kira...she would be released on Friday, and Shirley & Michael were helping them get settled in with the Yue Sao they found.  Yue Sao literally means "Month Nanny" - little did I know you could hire this talent to stay with you 24/7 after the baby is born to cook and take care of baby and mom!  Where was this person 32 years ago!? 😂

Thank goodness for the Ye's!  There is no way I would have been able to hire her, get her set up, and understand all of the special Chinese stuff she wanted/needed.

Instead, we took the time to run all sorts of errands for the house (picking carpet samples, looking into ranges - ours is not working correctly), getting the Lexus registered, finding a storage solution for Curiosity...but also seeing some friends, and prepping for an engagement!

Took a break for some Aloha T&T!

Took some time to meet up with SPAM (+BMB) for steaks!

We were sworn to secrecy the week before about Jackie's "surprise" engagement (even though she kinda knew it was going to happen - I guess she did not know about the specifics).  On Friday afternoon us girls got our nails done and then met the guys (Lester, Tyler & Barry) at Nam Kitchen for dinner.

The next day we were instructed to turn all of our phones on "Airplane Mode" so that Jackie could not track us while Lucas took her to Crystal Cove to propose 💗  We took part in the party planning crew setting up Lucas' house to surprise her with a party - we are so happy for these two!

In the meantime, Sian & Kira get to go home 💝

After the engagement party we drove up for our last visit with Kira before flying home to Texas!

On our last day, we joined in on a quick Sunday brunch where we finally got to meet Derek's girlfriend Christine!  They are perfect for one another 💕

After packing we met up for dinner in OC...Angela kept us in stitches...then she helped Shirley & Michael find live fish for Yue Sao to cook for Sian!

BTW, here is Yue Sao...she asked to be called Chen A-yi (Aunty Chen).  They are learning a lot from her 😉

We dropped off the Lexus at Coast Storage in "our space" and caught an Uber to LAX.  It was May 4th, and I had a little birthday cake leftover from Sunday brunch, along with these really good burritos we've discovered in the Southwest terminal 😋

...be back in a month with Luke and Curiosity!
