DAY 34 (6/6): Fairbanks

We weren't planning to see much of Fairbanks, even though it is the 2nd largest city in Alaska.  We wanted to stock up on groceries, do some laundry, etc...but nothing is too far away here, so we drove over to the University of Fairbanks first.  They have a museum on campus (Museum of the North) that is consistently on all of the "things to do in Fairbanks" lists.  It's no wonder...the museum is amazing!

The lobby has a skeleton of a Bowhead whale, which is still allowed to be hunted by natives for sustenance.

In summary, the museum contains all sort of stuff about Alaska - history, artifacts, art, scientific facts, etc.  One whole section is dedicated to the 5 different regions of Alaska:

There is also art on the upper floor, I loved the way they describe "Alaska Art":

Barry "literally" got into some of the contemporary art!

We also thought this was a pretty cool piece:

After the museum we went to a viewing location of the Alaskan Pipeline.  It really is kind of interesting how the pipeline is above ground in certain locations to avoid permafrost locations:

We used the instant pot I brought for the first time tonight - I made an easy chicken long rice soup!

The days are so long here since we are so far up north - we took a walk along the Chena River which is where our RV Park is located, and saw a rainbow at 10pm!

GOOD NIGHT!

Miles driven: 34
