DAYS 14 & 15 (5/17 - 5/18): Idaho & Craters of The Moon
I am combining these two days because Day 14 was basically a driving day into Idaho, and it was a hugely WINDY day! White knuckle driving just to keep Curiosity steady...
It was 33 degrees when we woke up today! Yikes - we needed to get some thermal underwear out! We drove through town - very interesting, and true!
I'm so glad we came to Craters of the Moon when we did - day after tomorrow they close for 4 days to improve the loop road! Wish we camped here, but I recall that it was first come first serve and I was a bit paranoid about being able to get a site.
We did several short hikes and were very impressed with how the park is laid out. Since these lava beds are so old, many of the educational photos used were from the Hawaiian volcanoes.
Despite what appears to be a lot of "death" in the photos below with the trees, there was quite a bit of color if you look closely (next photo collage).
Miles driven: Day 14 (279), Day 15 (49)
