We were meeting the kids in Hawaii and took the opportunity to stop over in LA to help my mom move into her new Senior Community, Regents Point. Our intervention in December paid off, and she has been happy staying there.
My mom is the luckiest person on earth. She was placed on a "Move-In, Move-Up" waiting list for her permanent unit in Nov/Dec. The wait could have been upwards of a year (I think she was #2 or #3 on the list, and had very specific asks about the location of the unit), but she was notified that a 4th floor, park-facing unit became available and they are remodeling it for her now. It will be ready around the end of April.
On Friday we did a walk-thru of the unit:
We also took a look at the storage they were able to find for her, which amounted to a small cage that is about 4x4x4...not enough room! So we took mom storage shopping. Storage space in Irvine is so much nicer than in the South Bay! We scored a 10x10 space in a beautiful facility for $106/mo!
So...for the next 5 days we categorized, cataloged, wrapped, packed and organized all of dad's remaining artwork - 127 pieces - and moved them into storage. Over the past several years of going back to California, I had already been moving memorabilia, photos, slides, etc. with me to Texas, and amazingly there is still so much stuff there, but we made more progress (and so has mom...there is just so much stuff, it is sometimes hard to tell):
Here are some BEFORE & AFTER shots (before pics were from December's visit).
We did take in some nice views from the backyard during "lunch breaks"...
On the final day we went on a walk and saw many peacocks (look at roof top)...
There was a pretty bad leak at her front yard spigot. Thank goodness her gardener showed up when we were there. We paid him some back-pay, and he also fixed the leak!
...we even met Bryan & Sian for Black Angus one night for old times' sake!
Luke was exhausted from being carted around from house-to-house (we stayed at Larry's for the weekend, and then Lester's during the week).
When he finally made it to Aunty Amy's on Friday, he was a happy camper (Amy too!)!
We are off to Hawaii!
ALOHA!
