DAY 50 (6/22): Dawson City

Quick post on Dawson City...first off, here is our camp.  It is right in the middle of downtown, so we can walk everywhere.

We spent most of the day just wandering around the streets - there is not much to the town.  It is very small, but there is a lot of gold mining history here, and a lot of stores that sell jewelry made from Yukon gold.  Their museum is quite good.  The buildings are a hodge-podge of restored, dilapidated and abandoned (permafrost damage) - many have signs and displays of what once was...which is nice that they are trying to preserve the history of the area and era.

I have to do a shout out to this bakery we stopped at called "Beverley's Bakeshop" - we were lured in by the "Donut Day" sign.  She is literally inside a building in the back with a kitchen adjacent.  She does not even have a website...but all of the ingredients are homemade.  I am not a sweets person, but these were to die for - we tried to go back the following day on our way out of town, but sadly she was not open yet :(  This photo collage also happens to have our poutine from lunch...cuz we are in Canada - must try some poutine!

As we are in the "Land of the Midnight Sun"...here is a photo of us at about 11pm or so...

GOOD NIGHT!
