DAY 10 (5/13/24): Finishing Up in South Dakota
The good thing about buying more than you need for two people for a meal is leftovers - we used the bacon for bacon & egg sandwiches - good meal for being on the road again!
Welcome to Sturgis...our first stop!
As we drove through town, we saw the Sturgis Strikers Bowling Alley and dad had to take a selfie...he was an avid bowler after retirement. I recall that he took a trip in an RV with a bunch of guys that he bowled with to a tournament once - wish I knew where they went...
Next stop Deadwood...the historic town where Wild Bill Hickok was shot and killed in a saloon on Main Street. A pretty touristy stop for photo ops:
I think the one Barry took of himself in the window is especially funny - look at how his body is perfectly centered as Wild Bill's body!
We spent a lovely afternoon in Spearfish with friends Mark and Kristin who re-settled there two years ago from Kauai. They treated us to homemade smash burgers - yum! We enjoyed our visit and hearing about their move with their beautiful girls :)
Last stop before camp tonight was Belle Fourche (pronounced: "Froosh")...this is where the geological center of the nation is - yes, if you count Alaska & Hawaii...it is the center!
Tonight we camp at a KOA (never camped at one of these before!). It happens to be the "Devil's Tower KOA" and sits at the base of Devil's Tower. Since it is off season the place is not crowded at all, which is great! In the summer months they have a nightly showing of Close Encounters...who remembers this 70's movie???
It's nice to camp again.
GOOD NIGHT!
Miles driven: 152
